| Holestar's DJ sets focus on fun and getting people excited, running the gauntlet of trashy pop, electro, classic disco with the odd indie and kitsch favourite thrown in. Having recently returned from GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL with a torn cruciate ligament (whilst on-stage non the less), she's a true show biz trooper and is going to turn it up all the way to eleven for her saphic sisters. Expect disco stompers, singalong treats, dance routine numbers, songs to snog to and promising no singer/song writer heart breakers (she may be gay, but no cliché).
Holestar has performed extensively as a performer and DJ in club and art spaces in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Turkey, New York and UK. While living in Vienna and not wanting to fall into a drag king role, she was inspired by the Blake Edwards film Victor/Victoria and started to create her drag character, celebrating exaggerated symbols femininity, reclaiming elaborate feminine codes from drag queens to the female body and subverting expectations.
At the Vienna Life Ball (Europe’s biggest AIDS benefit) she met a DJ who asked her to talk over his sets as an event host. Discovering she had a voice, Holestar then moved into singing live and performing live bootlegs/ mash ups from electro, pop, disco and rock. She has since expanded her performative personae by performing lip synchs, spoken word, acting and singing standards as well as incorporating it into art work. She is also currently producing the documentary 'Ring Them Bells'; the first film about Londons queer alternative scene. |
