What you should know about the work that ActionAid and Bollocks To Poverty are doing:
40 million people are living with HIV globally, most in Africa. Almost 8000 people die of AIDS each day, and another 14000
are infected. In many countries, AIDS has been seen as a problem that affects men, specifically gay men, and as a result its impact on women has been largely overlooked. Yet today AIDS has an increasingly female face. Among young people
living with HIV in southern Africa, three quarters are female.
ActionAid believes the denial of their rights is what makes
them most vulnerable. Despite growing evidence that women
are on the front line of the AIDS pandemic, governments and international bodies have failed to recognize this trend or respond with solutions that reflect the realities of women’s
lives or that seek to protect their rights.
You said Bollocks to Poverty on World AIDS Day
"WiSH upon a Star" 01.Dec.2007 On the 1st December 2007 the ladies at WiSH held a festive, glamorous and gritty Christmas charity benefit called “WiSH upon a Star”. The date was significant as it was WORLD AIDS DAY. This one-off event supported the work that Bollocks To Poverty and ActionAid are doing in South Africa for women and AIDS.
Money was raised on the night to help fund a unique ActionAid initiative in South Africa which supports women’s rights organizations to campaign together so that all South African women are guaranteed a healthy, happy and dignified life in the face of HIV and AIDS. Violation of womens’ rights in developing countries puts them at risk of HIV infection and stops them from getting the medical treatment they need

Message from Bollocks to Poverty "Bollocks to Poverty On Tour has been calling on DJs, bands, or anyone putting on an event to raise awareness, money or campaign for an end to the scandal of global poverty with ActionAid. WiSH have set the standard by promoting BTP at every one of their club nights in 2007, culminating in the dazzling WISH upon a STAR party in December. Having already raised over £1400 for us, Kath and Linda have amazed us with their enthusiasm and creativity and dedication to BTP On Tour. And we can't forget the fabulous WiSH crowd who have worn our badges, signed our campaign and donated their cash!" The Bollocks to Poverty Team

How much have you've raised so far? In 2008, WiSH has committed £1 of every £10 door entry paid will go directly to the Bollocks to Poverty campaign. It is important to us at WiSH to be completely transparent – there are so many negative stories of club nights for charity. That’s why BTP have set up a fundraising page online so that any of our clubbers can go and see exactly what we’re raising together – and donate if they would like to! WiSHgirls Here are all our fabulous 13 WiSHgirls from 2007 as featured in the WiSH 2008 Calendar. Click each thumbnail to see more.
WiSHgirl 2008 Calendar WiSH ran the WiSHgirl Calendar Promotion throughout 2007, where each month a gorgeous WiSHgirl was voted as favourite from the selection of photos taken on the night in the online gallery. The winner each month was whisked away for a professional photoshoot. The results of which were displayed at WiSH nights and online.
The calendar is the result of one year’s worth of gorgeous WiSHgirl winners. Each beautiful in her own right. The proceeds from sales of this calendar have been donated to Bollocks To Poverty and ActionAid to help fund their women AIDS project in South Africa. So a big smiley thanks to YOU from WiSH and Bollocks To Poverty for donating by buying a calendar. Feel good, because you’ve made a difference!
