Photographer

I take pictures. I like taking pictures. Sometimes my pictures are good, sometimes they aren’t.

I prefer videos… But videos are more invasive. So I have to take pictures. I don’t ask people if I can take their pictures I just take them. Most don’t mind. Some do but I don’t care, I take their picture anyway.

I studied art so I should know about photography discourses. Sometimes I like to think but not when I’m taking pictures. I don’t like people posing but how do you un-pose?  I like the relationship between photography, film and reality.

Photography as well as film has always had a rather ambiguous relationship with reality. On the one hand they have acted as tool for recording things or events mechanically in a so-called objective manner that has ostensibly not been “interfered with”. On the other hand, it has been used as a means to interpretation or as a way of commenting on the world in which we live. They have the means of “recording” reality as well as “interpreting” reality and it is this characteristic that we have to understand when claiming to understand the medium of photography and film. (Swanepoel, P. 2005 Between objectivity and subjectivity: Understanding Photography)

I enjoy talking to the people but after I have taken their picture. People don’t want to be bored with theory so I just show them the pictures. I suffer from camera envy. I like looking at other people’s cameras. They have bigger better cameras. I want a big flashy camera. But most of all I like to party while I take pictures and take pictures while I party.
